The North Rhine-Westphalian Judo Federation (NWJV) is the largest membership of a member association in the German Judo Federation (DJB). The NWJV is also on the governing body for Budotechniken North Rhine-Westphalia member of the Sports Federation of NRW. The NWJV has about 520 clubs with 40,000 members. The NWJV covered with its clubs a wide range of products from: Successful participants in the Olympic Games, competitive sport for all ages, league play from the age group U16, belt checks, mass sports, school sports, disabled sports, judo learn by playing in preschool, moving OLDER be with JUDO, catalogs contests and more.
Judo is a Japanese martial art whose roots go back far. In competition, it comes then to force the opponent with different techniques first on the ground and to the task. Judo is not only a sport, but to strengthen, educate and communicate values and the personality. Ingredients are case technology, throwing techniques, grappling techniques, self-defense, Kata ... the "gentle way".
The North Rhine-Westphalian Judo Association was founded on 19 November 1952 as the North Rhine-Westphalian judo ring in Essen. At the inaugural meeting of 13 clubs participated. Chairman Henry Frantzen has been selected. Since 1964, the work of the North Rhine-Westphalian judo ring and Judo Amateur Association of North Rhine-Westphalia under the name of North Rhine-Westphalian Judo Association was continued.
President of NWJV Peter Frese from Wuppertal, vice presidents Hans-Werner Krämer from Siegen and Andreas Kleegräfe from Cologne. Another board member Edgar Korthauer from Essen as president of the North Rhine-Westphalian Dan-College (NWDK).
