About this app

MusicBrainz is an open music encyclopedia that collects music metadata and makes it available to the public.

MusicBrainz aims to be:
- The ultimate source of music information by allowing anyone to contribute and releasing the data under open licenses.
- The universal lingua franca for music by providing a reliable and unambiguous form of music identification, enabling both people and machines to have meaningful conversations about music.

MusicBrainz is maintained by a global community of users and we want everyone, including you, to participate and contribute.

MusicBrainz App is designed to do the following:

- View release information by scanning a barcode
- Search for information about artists, releases, release groups, labels, recordings, instruments, and events.
- View collections
- Tag audio files like Picard
- Send Releases to your Picard
- Donate to the MetaBrainz Foundation

MusicBrainz captures information about artists, their recorded works, and the relationships between them.
Recorded works entries capture at a minimum the album title, track titles, and the length of each track.
These entries are maintained by volunteer editors who follow community written style guidelines.
Recorded works can also store information about the release date and country, the CD ID, cover art, acoustic fingerprint, free-form annotation text, and other metadata.

The source code for this app is available on GitHub at https://github.com/metabrainz/musicbrainz-android

This app uses icons designed by Freepik and Flaticon, leverages the Spotify Android SDK for playing tracks.

Really disappointing app, given how good the desktop version is. However, it is a relatively new app (released about a year ago), so I believe it has plenty of potential to one day be great. In its current form, this app lacks A LOT of some basic tagging functionality that I expected. It only seems to be able to manually tag the Title, Artist, Track#, Disc# and Year (not even "Release Date"). Hopefully they'll incorporate all the tags editable in MusicBrainz Picard (desktop) in the future.

Hi Rick, thank you for your review. We have revamped the app and removed the tagger from it. We did not intend to create something comparable to Picard, given that we have limitations for it on mobile. We want the MusicBrainz app to be simplistic and be a native mobile interface for the database. We have further addressed this better in our blogs.

Works okish, but it's wildly unintuitive and there aren't really any usable features, using the website directly is way better even if it's not optimized for phones that well

Had this software on my PC and it was one of the best programs I ever used. The mobile app misidentifies distinct songs as being identical songs by a distinct artist.
