The aircraft carrier USS Intrepid served the United States Navy from 1943 to 1974. Massive boilers supplied steam to turbine engines that took Intrepid from the Arctic Circle to the South Pacific. The hard-working crew in the Engineering Department controlled and directed the high-pressure superheated steam that powered the ship. They also maintained Intrepid’s engines, boilers and miles of pipes and valves.
