About this game

This is not for gamers. It can be difficult. I have known many people who have given up on the task. This is not for the faint of mind or mentally squeamish. Warning: You may abandon all hope after downloading this puzzle. Joking aside, the sliding puzzle is made up of famous paintings. The aim of the puzzle is to put the painting back together again in the most optimum way. The puzzle has 8 sliding panels in a 3 X 3 square. So one square is free thus allowing the movement of the nearby squares. With each planned move the painting is slowly moved into place. A computer can plan 24 moves ahead. The player is challenged to do the same. There are many different levels of difficulty to the game from the hardest 23-24 move puzzle to the easiest level of the 9-11 move puzzle. As you might expect the game program always has a next correct move ready. A correct move is defined as one that moves the puzzle closer to completion always resulting in one less move to complete the masterpiece. And one can always know exactly how many moves it would take to complete the masterpiece. This is displayed at the bottom of the puzzle. There are different modes to the game. There is an AUTO mode which will solve the puzzle by continuously moving the puzzle pieces into place. Also there are a few RANDOM modes that just move the puzzle randomly without purpose. Then there is TOUCH mode which allows the player to move the pieces and solve the puzzle. You can switch between modes freely. When one downloads the game and goes to the options page there are 2 pages one should read before playing the game. One is the explanations page which gives the meaning to the buttons one see’s when playing the game. The other is the background page which gives you some of the mathematical logic behind the puzzle.
All works of Art used in the Game are in the Public Domain.
Creative works that have no protection under intellectual property laws are considered to be in the public domain, and may be freely used by anyone in any way and for any purpose.
I use 2 musical pieces.
Both the musical piece and the performance are in the public domain. They were downloaded from the Wikimedia Commons website with MUSOPEN providing the actual recordings.

All the music that MUSOPEN hosts is royalty and copyright free.

I use 5 paintings, all in the Public Domain, They are available in PICRYL. PICRYL is a public domain search & similarity engine.

What's new

So This release adds a new Excalibur Mode. In this mode the blank square of the painting is randomly chosen. By default it normally was the right top hand square. Now it can even be the middle square of the painting. So this adds a new level of complexity to the puzzle.
