The Hypereides was a politician and strategist of ancient Athens.
Born in 389 BC and took an active part in the politics of his homeland next to Demosthenes against Philip of Macedonia. After the defeat of the Athenians in Krannona the Hypereides fled to the sanctuary of Aeacus Aegina, where he was arrested. Tradition says he cut his tongue with his teeth to not be forced to betray. The most important reason was the epitaph of those who fell in Lamian war. After the defeat of the Athenians in Lamian war killed Antipater (322 BC).
