About this app

Virginia’s Mobile ID (mID) is a voluntary, secure, and digital version of your Virginia-issued driver’s license or ID card that you carry in an app on your smartphone. Because the mID is a new technology, you should continue to carry your physical ID with you because not all entities are able to verify mID yet. The Virginia DMV urges people to always carry their physical ID when driving so it can be used in interactions with law enforcement during traffic stops or incidents.

The mID provides an official driver’s license or identification card on your mobile device and gives you the ability to control what information you share. Unlike the physical card and barcode, you may limit the data you share with businesses or organizations that you interact with. 

The mID was implemented to give you additional convenience and to improve your privacy and control. Privacy protections are built into the software so that no entities can track how you use your mID. No data ever leaves your device without your consent. Additionally, Virginia is not notified where you use the mID. The mID also gives greater accuracy to the businesses with whom you interact a high level of assurance that the identity data is genuine and unaltered, and can lower the incidence of fraudulent purchases, illegal driving, and criminals impersonating citizens.

I see it up like a breeze in August and encouraged my friend to do it as well. Late Sept onwards app kept crashing as I tapped to open it. uninstalled and reinstalled. since then the app keeps taking you between before you begin and accepting the terms and conditions screen... never moves forward after agreeing to terms and conditions. yes, I have my bluetooth and NFC turned on. got to do better than this.

Just add Google and Apple wallet versions already, we DON'T want this! Also this app keeps resetting and losing my data, there's no way to sign back in, you have to register again with your ID. The single benefit this could have had is to have a backup digital ID but it's too unreliable for that to even work. Just add support for mobile wallets already, those work, this doesn't.

Great when it works though I would prefer Virginia simply partner with Google and Apple wallets like other states. This app frequently crashes on me and requires a reinstall, clearing cache and data does not correct the issue. I also often need to re-setup the app due to lost data (outside of clearing cache/data mentioned above). The app is not reliable enough for me to use in the real world, it's only worked about half the time I have needed it.
