About this game

Wings of Glory is a 2D side-scrolling World War II aerial combat game where the player takes the role of a U.S. Navy pilot fighting Japanese forces across islands and carrier fleets. The game blends arcade flight combat, mission-based progression, and resource management.

Core Gameplay

Side-scrolling camera that dynamically zooms in and out based on aircraft altitude.

Low altitude = zoomed-in, precise combat

High altitude = zoomed-out, wider battlefield view

Missions are completed by eliminating all enemy forces on islands and ships.

The player can return to their carrier at any time to refuel, repair, and switch aircraft.

Progression & Missions

Structured into naval ranks, from Midshipman to Captain

15 missions total, with increasing difficulty

Each mission includes objectives such as:

Clearing islands of enemies

Destroying bunkers, camps, towers

Defeating enemy aircraft and carrier ships

Completing missions grants extra lives

Aircraft & Loadouts

The game features multiple planes, each with unique stats and weapons:

Mustang Fighter – balanced, rockets & machine gun

Dauntless – slow but durable, bomb-focused

Hellcat – versatile, rockets, bombs, and torpedo

Super Spitfire – extremely fast and agile, low health

F4U Corsair – very tough, heavy payload

All planes have:

Fuel (depletes over time)

Oil (damaged planes leak oil and may crash)

Limited ammunition

Weapons

Machine guns – standard weapon for all targets

Bombs – effective against ground targets

Rockets – for hardened structures like towers

Torpedoes – designed to sink ships

Enemies & Targets

Infantry – low threat, must still be eliminated

Bunkers – release soldiers when attacked

Enemy camps – houses protected by defenses

Shooting towers – highly damaging automated defenses

Enemy aircraft – fighters and torpedo bombers

Enemy carrier ships – heavily defended, require torpedoes

Enemy torpedo bombers are highlighted on the HUD, requiring quick interception to protect the player’s carrier.

Carrier Ships

The U.S. carrier acts as the central hub:

Repairs aircraft

Refuels and restores oil

Allows plane and weapon switching

Must be defended—3 torpedo hits end the game

Enemy carriers host aircraft, turrets, and require torpedoes to destroy

Lives & Failure

Start with 3 lives

Gain +1 life per successful mission

Losing the final plane results in game over

User Interface & Presentation
