In the 1990s, the world went crazy for 3D illusions called "autostereograms." School book fairs sold collections of these images, TV shows made jokes about them, and adults and children alike had a great time trying to make the 3D image "pop out" of the page. B3d is bringing this amazing visual trick back for today's generation.
Autostereograms are fascinating 3D illusions that reveal themselves when you relax your eyes and focus deeply on a special kind of image. To generate an autostereogram, you pass an image called a "depth map" through a specific algorithm to create what looks like a rectangle of random dots. The magic lies in these seemingly random dots, which conceal a 3D representation of your depth map. B3d leverages the super-powered computer you carry in your pocket to take a picture, apply machine learning and image processing, produce a black-and-white depth map, and finally transform the grayscale image into a cool autostereogram you can share with your friends.
Use B3d to take a fun picture of your pet, snap a romantic shot with your partner, or create a cool image of random objects in your room. You could even print one out as a thoughtful gift or frame it as a conversation piece for your wall. You'll have a great time—I promise!
B3d is in active development and is getting better every day, and we’re asking for your support. Modern cellphones all come with different hardware sensors and different amounts of processing power, so we need time and funding to experiment with a few different models . There are also many algorithms we could use to speed up and improve image generation, and we need to test them.
