88.9 WERS is Boston’s Uncommon Radio, Emerson College’s award winning public radio station. Student run, professionally managed, and listener supported, it plays a commercial-free eclectic mix of new and classics from local, alternative, indie, and iconic artists.  Specialty programming also includes in-studio live performances from local bands, showtunes, soul and R&B, acoustic singer-songwriters, and Jewish music and humor. WERS has been proudly serving New England since 1949 with music, news, public service announcements and special events of interest. The app streams 3 stations: 88.9 WERS, ERS+ The Black Experience, and Standing Room Only, a 24/7 stream of the best of Broadway and Showtunes. The app also provides playlists, music news, and program listings. App users can also donate to the station and leave audio messages to be used on the air.

Ratings and reviews

Love the station, but this latest app version stops every time I unlock my screen, get a text, etc, basically anytime I touch my phone or get a call, message, etc. So, an area for improvement if you want people to keep it on - half the time I don't bother restarting the play button since it will be moments til I have to repeat the process. Thank you!

Latest update, which didn't ask to be installed, is a disappointment. When bluetoothed to my vehicle, track listing does not update, pause/play button does not work, and I've noticed the volume changing on its own. Interface has to "catch up" when it returns to focus, and there have been tracks playing over each other. Bring back the previous version.

The worst app is now even worse. This station is the best! This app has serious problems. Mislabeled band names. Beck comes up as Glenn Beck the right wing wacko? The Heavy Heavy comes up as The Heavy. And at least a third of the band names are kind of wrong or totally wrong. First open the first songs details don't show up without repeatedly stopping and restarting. Then has to be restarted after being in background for a while. Also low audio compared to other apps.
