About this app

The fundamental objective of the Sigilla Hispaniae application is to present the Corpus Sigilla Hispaniae (CSH) online. It is a corpus of potters' marks documented in the productions of Hispanic terra sigillata. This materializes in the CORPVS tab, which consists of several items. The first is the so-called “corpus of potters” which offers a list of all known officinae (workshops). They can sign the products
epigraphically (through letters) or anepigraphically (through decorative motifs). It is an open list that allows the inclusion of new brands that may appear during the investigations (as has happened with the last 6 trademarks registered after the corpus was put into operation). Each workshop (office) is assigned a digit that is located after the initials CSH. If we want to obtain data about the
mark (sigillum) of a specific potter, we can click on view file and all the records of the requested mark appear. In turn, it is possible to click on each of them but individually. This refers us to more detailed information. The second item is called “search”. In reality, it is an advanced search engine that, by entering one option, two or the ones we choose from all those that the application shows us, allows us, for example, to obtain information about a specific brand,
on several brands in a specific area and, thus, among a wide range of possibilities.
The third item is the so-called “cartography” which, like the previous one, through the chosen option or options generates the map with the requested data.
The Sigilla Hispaniae application offers, in turn, a series of tabs related to the project itself (items: presentation, philosophy, objectives, structure, team, technology, schedule), to the Hispanic terra sigillata TSH (items: state of the art, production centers, forms, receiving centers, redistributing centers) among other information. The contact tab allows you to request a password to enter data into the corpus related to a brand that appears in a site, museum, publication or similar.
Staff who request access to the corpus to enter their data (which will be reviewed before appearing online) will appear as the author of that specific entry in the corpus. It is therefore an open corpus, it is a tool that aims to facilitate the work of professionals in archaeology, museums, centers for the social dissemination of historical-cultural heritage, as well as any non-expert interested in the subject.
