About this game

Descend to the Underworld and live among myths as the deity of spring!

"Fields of Asphodel" is a 1.3 million-word interactive novel by JJ Laurier. It's entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Forced into an arranged marriage with the God of the Dead, only you can decide what to make of your new life. Befriend misfit deities, repel giant attacks, find the culprit behind the river goddess's mysterious illness, and use your powers to nudge Fate in your favor! Decide what kind of deity you want to be—whether you'll answer prayers, how you'll develop your powers, and what role you'll take in governance.

• Play as male, female, or nonbinary; gay, straight, bi, asexual, or poly.
• Play as neurodivergent or neurotypical.
• Take on the powers of spring and life.
• Find love and friendship among the gods of the ancient Greek Underworld.
• Develop your abilities and hobbies, and choose the kind of life you want to live.
• Grow a garden in the Underworld.
• Defend the realm, advise the King, and solve a mystery.
• Make a new home, or seize the opportunity to return to your old one.

Can you bring light to the darkest of realms?

I got into this game and was kind of disappointed in the end. It's meandering and kind of pointless. The writing is ok. Could use some help. If i never see the word "wry" written again, it'll be too soon. I wonder if the author knows it means "dry, mocking humor"? It doesnt really work with the character anyway, but it's used 1,000 times and i hate it. The choices are largely inconsequential and the romances don't go anywhere. Stats menu sucks. Characters have their own voices which is good.

My new favourite choice game! I've followed the development of the demo for a while and was already impressed, but the full version improves on it tenfold. The only game so far where I can see myself romancing any of the characters, they're all equally realistic and well-written. The lore is interesting, and mostly free of plot holes, so a playthrough with no romance would be worthwhile as well (there are platonic routes available). Definitely worth the price in my opinion

Overall, it's really good. However, none of the romances go anywhere, nor can you be forwarded with any type of feelings for said romance options. It's very much a slow burn that possibly leads to a second book. To be honest, it was a tad disappointing in that aspect. If you like slow burn, then this is for you.
