About this app

Ellen Reid SOUNDWALK is GPS-enabled work of public art that uses music to illuminate the natural environment. Created by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Ellen Reid, SOUNDWALK uses your city’s iconic outdoor spaces as its canvas. SOUNDWALK is a meditative experience, created to encourage calm reflection and introspection, and can be experienced while following social distancing guidelines.

IT’S A SIMPLE AS

1) Download the free app
2) Put on your headphones
3) Press ‘start’
4) Explore the park

A note from composer Ellen Reid:

“These are unprecedented times; we’re all experiencing the anxieties of living in an uncertain world. We miss our communities, and we miss the very thing that makes our cities special: the people.

I hope SOUNDWALK will inspire us and make us feel connected to something larger than ourselves. It is meant to serve as artistic nourishment - a place to recharge, reconnect, and re-energize.”

Audio would not play on a flagship Android device. Tested multiple pairs of headphones both wired and wireless, as well as the speakers. Checked other apps and sound worked, restarted the phone. Nothing could get it to work. Ended up sharing a friend's phone which was not ideal Griffith park/LA experience

The music and concept were great. In Central Park at some point it kind of stopped and was awkward to get started again. Later, when not using it, it started running in the background, resulting in a very hot phone and almost dead battery. That's disastrous.

After installing app from playstore, another download is required when you open the app to start. (Presumably the music?) But, had to uninstall/reinstall the app to get that to fully download. Once that was done, app worked pretty well. However, why does the app require access to location all the time; I will give location access only when using the app.

Hi there, yes the download for the experience is because there are multiple walks, and it's easier to download the walks individually. Sorry you had a poor experience downloading, we'll try to improve that. As for the location access, we need background access so the sound continues playing while your device is in your pocket. Many thanks!
