Hermes Trismaximus (the triple magician) was the name used by Greeks during the Antiquity for the lunar god of the Egyptian Thoth, a protector and inspirer of astrology and alchemy, who was identified with Hermes of Greek mythology. It was thus named by the multitude of discoveries attributed to it such as language, alphabet, geometry, numeracy, astronomy, medicine, gymnastics, dance, music, sculpture and any art or science, or even because of his triple as he believed his status as a philosopher, physician and king. It was the symbol of the divine intellect, "living speech", as they called it, incarnate thought.
