About this game

Summon demons to win the French Revolution! Will you uphold the Republic, restore the monarchy, rule France yourself, or lose your head?

"Revolution Diabolique" is a 425,000-word interactive dark fantasy novel by Chris Conley. It's entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

As a demonologist in eighteenth-century France, you study the worldā€™s most dangerous forbidden magic in the safety of your provincial estate. You can summon forth a breathtaking variety of demons: some creep subtly around your enemies to confuse and distract them; some appear as terrifying monsters; some guide you towards unlocking even deeper secrets of the universe.

Now that the flames of revolution are beginning to kindle, you cannot hold yourself apart from politics for long. Every faction - monarchists, republicans, peasants, intellectuals, anarchists - would love to benefit from your power. Where will you send your demons? Will you unleash their power on the battlefield to aid or hinder the Revolutionā€™s armies - or march on Paris itself? Will you lead a political faction with the secret knowledge that you have gained? Will you inspire a new cult dedicated to demons?

But all power comes with a price, and as you rise up, you will need to sacrifice something: your reputation, your fortune, your safetyā€¦or possibly even your life.

When the dust clears, will it be you who rules France?

I have enjoyed many of the offerings of Choice of Games, but this one was a real let down. They somehow made the French Revolution boring and this is a time period I love. There are quite a few bugs to report. A lot of the writing is overly mechanical. I want to feel like I am playing a character not dumping points into stat blocks. For a game that doesn't have an actual numerical amount of money to spend, the game reminds you how much money your character makes way too often. Just overall bland

4 stars. Each playthrough takes approx 2hrs. The plot is minimal and there is no real romance. Luckily there are a ton of storylines to pursue from establishing a magical school to basically becoming a magical Napoleon and plenty other of things to do. Ive fully played 3 different storylines so far. The only real reason Id dock half a star is due to what I can only consider "vestigial" functions within the game like a supposed rivalry meter that doesn't play a factor unless you play a noble.

Fixed a bug (for real, this time) where the app could lose progress when the app goes into the background. If you enjoy "Revolution Diabolique", please leave us a written review. It really helps!
