Created as a collaboration between ASDENIC and the Frugal Innovation Hub at Santa Clara University, NicaAgua is a weather forecasting app intended to aid select communities located in Northern Nicaragua in preparing for and managing the country's rainy season.
NicaAgua has a variety of weather forecast features, including both short-term and long-term forecasts. The app includes historical weather data provided by ASDENIC from a local weather station located in Estelí, Nicaragua. Additionally, the user can view short-term (up to 15 days) of forecasted precipitation or seasonal forecasts. Through the app, ASDENIC administrators can send users informative messages related to their community's weather.
Additional support for the NicaAgua mobile app was provided by Santa Clara University's Environmental Justice and the Common Good Initiative, SCU's Center for Food Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship.
