UpajBadao is targeted at India’s small landholding farmers who rely on agriculture income for their livelihood. Over 100 million farmers in India fall in this bracket. But input costs for farmers are very high compared with the crop yields due to which small landholding farmers are unable to rise above the poverty line. UpajBadao is developed around the core principle that farmers do not need to incur significant costs to grow crops and can use local/organic resources and knowledge of basic science to grow healthy and high yielding crops.

UpajBadao App has a simple user interface with a farmer first required to choose their location followed by the season basis which relevant crops (vegetables) are recommended. Step by step recommendations are provided for setting up field, using organic fertilisers, sowing techniques and controlling herbicides and pesticides. Homegrown methods for organic fertilisers and pesticides are provided.

UpajBadao App is initially launched in the Raigad district of Maharashtra state (India) where initial primary research has been carried with the ultimate objective to develop this for pan India farmers.

Local Farmers + Local Connects
UpajBadao App provides small landholding farmers awareness about the latest farmer schemes for crop subsidies, insurance and related services and how to make use of these services. Further, the App provides details of local agricultural centres for any assistance required.
