About this app

Fire Hydraulics is offered as a free app with no ads and no in-app purchases.

Usage of this app and results are for academic purposes only. Do not rely on the results for actual fire incidents.

Fire Hydraulics uses the Pump Discharge Pressure formula alternatively known as the Engine Pressure formula to display Engine Pressure, Nozzle Pressure, Friction Loss, Appliance Loss, and Elevation Loss/Gain.

The Pump Discharge Pressure formula alternatively known as the Engine Pressure formula is specified in the Denver Fire Department Pump Chart Curriculum, Version 2.0, 01-22-2023.

Appliance losses are specified in the Denver Fire Department, Safety and Training, Friction Loss Pump Chart, Revised 2019.

Friction Loss is calculated using the coefficient formula C(Q^2)L as defined in the Denver Fire Department Pump Chart Curriculum, Version 2.0, 01-22-2023.

User data entry is provided by the following:

Text fields
- hose length
- flow
- elevation

Dropdowns
- hose diameter
- appliance

Radio buttons
- numerical unit selection
- nozzle type

Numerical units are selectable for English and Metric. English units are feet for length and elevation, inches for hose diameter, and gallons per minute for flows. Metric units are meters for length and elevation, mm for hose diameter, and liters per minute for flows. Note - User entered values will remain when switching between English and Metric. Example: 30 feet entered in English units will be interpreted as 30 meters when switched to Metric units.

Operational for light and dark themes, and portrait and landscape modes. Scrolling provided if needed.

Results given for engine pressure, nozzle pressure, friction loss, appliance loss, and elevation loss or gain.
