Reading the Al-Fatihah letter is included as a pillar of prayer by most scholars, such as the Al-Malikiyah, Asy-Syafi'iyah and Al-Hanabilah schools. While the opinion of the Al-Hanafiyah school is different by saying that Al-Fatihah is not pillars.

Jumhur: Rukun

Jumhur scholars such as the schools of Al-Malikiyah, Asy-Syafi'iyah and Al-Hanabilah agree that reading Surah Al-Fatihah is a pillar of prayer, in which one's prayer is invalid without reading it.

The argument that they put forward is the Prophet's hadith which explicitly states that prayer is invalid without reading Surah Al-Fatihah:

From Ubadah bin Shamit ra said that Rasulullah SAW said, "It is not valid to pray except by reading the Ummil-Quran (Surah Al-Fatihah)" (Narrated by Bukhari Muslim)

Whoever reads Ummul Kitab (Al-Fatihah) then his prayer is valid. Who forgives (with the verses of the Quran after), then it is more important. (HR. Muslim)

The person who prays does not read Ummul Quran, then his prayer is interrupted, his prayer is interrupted, his prayer is interrupted incompletely. (HR. Muslim)

When you are standing and facing the Qibla, start takbiratul ihram then read Ummul Quran followed by the verse you want.
