The 2024 Copa America had been expected to be hosted by Ecuador due to CONMEBOL's host rotation order. However, CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez said Ecuador had been nominated but not yet chosen to organize the edition. In November 2022, the country declined to host the tournament. Peru and the United States had both expressed interest in organizing the tournament.

The CONMEBOL Copa America (literally America Cup), known until 1975 as the South American Football Championship (Campeonato Sudamericano de Fútbol in Spanish and Campeonato Sul-Americano de Futebol in Portuguese), is the top men's football tournament contested among national teams from South America. It is the oldest still-running continental football competition, as well as the third most watched in the world. The competition determines the champions of South America. Since the 1990s, teams from North America and Asia have also been invited to compete.

- Copa America Prediction
In recent years, the Copa America has seen victories shared between Brazil and Argentina. Brazil won the tournament in 2019 as hosts, consolidating their trophy cabinet. Argentina broke its long drought of almost 30 years in 2021 by winning the title, buoyed by Lionel Messi's brilliant performance. These two iconic nations dominated the recent trophy cabinet, highlighting their historic rivalry and their ability to rise to the top of South American soccer. However, to everyone's surprise, it was Chile who successfully won the 2015 and 2016 Copas, putting an end to the dream of the Argentinians and La Pulga.

Brazil lifted its first official international title since the 1970 FIFA World Cup upon winning the 1989 Copa America held on home soil. Argentina, in turn, won the Copa America after 32 long years in 1991 in Chile, thanks to a refreshed squad led by the prolific goalscorer Gabriel Batistuta. The 1993 Copa America tournament in Ecuador would take its current form. Along with the usual ten teams, CONMEBOL invited two countries from CONCACAF to participate, Mexico and the United States.
