About this app

This app displays real time data from a marine electronics network. To use it you'll need a boat and hardware that publishes NMEA-0183 messages onto a wifi network (I use Yacht Devices' YDWG-02).

Data is displayed on one or more pages, each containing a grid of data elements. Long hold any data element to change the data it is displaying or its format. Each cell can hold either the current value of some property or a plot of the property over time. Swipe left or right to move between pages (or use the number keys if you have a keyboard). You can add or remove pages and change the number of elements on each page using the "Pages" menu. Every form also has its own help page. Please read this by tapping the question mark at the top right of the screen to find out more about what the form does and why.

As a prudent mariner please use the data displayed on this app with caution and crosscheck against other sources whenever possible. Many different things could potentially go wrong from malfunctions in a boat's sensor to bugs in the software to problems with your configuration.

This software is open source and licenced under the MIT License. I'm developing it as a hobby but do plan on spending a few hours a month expanding and improving it. If you run into any problems or have feature requests I should consider please file issues at https://github.com/sankeysoft/nmea_dashboard/issues.

I've loaded this app on both an Android phone and an Android tablet. The data is coming from an NMEA network via an Actisense W2K-1 gateway to the ship's wifi system. On each one it ran OK. However what I observed is that when both were run they simultaneously crashed. They also caused the datastream to my OpenCPN (rev 5.8.4) to lock up and crash as well. When I killed both of these NMEA dashboard apps and rebooted OPCN I could see OPCN restart OK and receive the NMEA datasteam OK (via debug).

The developer has been working with me to get the NMEA sentences produced by my SeaTalk to NMEA converter box supported. He has been very responsive to my suggestions. I have not been able to test the latest update yet, but I'm pretty sure this will be 5/5 after I've been through the latest, as well as fixed some issues on my end. Nice looking interface. I have been looking for something to give me all the nav and environment data while I nap in my cabin.

Thanks for filing the bugs on github - since you managed that I'm guessing the 404 was just a typo? Also since you filed a bug on adding support for RMC I'm guessing you did also find the correct network settings and the apps now works for you? If so would you consider updating the rating?

A simple little application that works well, but if it had the ability to receive data via Bluetooth it would be even better.
