Learn to find every country in the world – and remember them using spaced repetition.
MapSharp shows you the name of a country, and you find it on the map. It's easy to get started, but behind the quiz is a learning method that makes sure you actually remember what you've learned.
THE WORLD – FREE
All 197 countries and 50 territories, from Martinique and Greenland to Hong Kong and Tuvalu. That is every country, and every inhabited place with its own country code. Start with the countries you think you know, and work your way to the ones most people can't place. The whole map is free.
OTHER MAPS AVAILABLE IN THE APP
• Nifty Fifty – all 50 US states. Free.
• County Savvy – all 3,143 counties and county equivalents in the United States.
• Norwegian municipalities – all 357 municipalities in Norway.
Each map keeps its own progress and pace, and you can switch between them at any time.
HOW IT WORKS
• Read the name and tap the right place on the map.
• Your answer is recorded as correct or incorrect.
• The app keeps track of what you should review, and when.
SPACED REPETITION
The app uses spaced repetition to help you remember. Spaced repetition is a well-documented learning method. Instead of practicing everything equally often, you see each place again around the time you're about to forget it. This way you review when you need to, not before.
Get one wrong, and it comes back soon. Get it right, and the time until the next review grows longer and longer – eventually weeks and months. That way, your time is spent on the places you struggle with, not the ones you already know.
The app uses FSRS, a modern, open-source spaced repetition algorithm also used in several well-known flashcard apps.
SET YOUR OWN PACE
You decide how many new places to learn each day. Reviews come on top of that, so it pays to start small and increase the number once you have a feel for how much you can keep up with.
MISSED A DAY?
No problem. Your reviews will wait for you, and the app takes the delay into account when it schedules the next review.
TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
A color-coded progress map that updates after each review shows how well you have learned every place on the map.
