Pain detection in cattle can be particularly challenging, as these animals often show subtle or ambiguous signs of discomfort. However, pain management and detection are essential to ensure both the health and welfare of cows and calves.
Until recently, pain assessment tools for cattle were limited, with most assessments focusing solely on lameness. Under the leadership of Oniris (the National Veterinary School of Nantes, France), a panel of veterinary experts has developed a set of specific and easy-to-use pain assessment grids tailored to various common health conditions in cattle.
BoviSensor is a practical tool built on this expert consensus, designed to help farmers, veterinarians detect pain more effectively and act accordingly.
