For UV conscious users and skin-care enthusiasts:
All features are free including the UV widget.
In addition to skin cancer, sunburn and actinic damage (UV+visible+infrared exposure) accounts for ~80% of skin aging.
This app provides the real-time theoretical UV value at the user's location and time, adjusted for the cosine angle of the sun (also considering atmospheric path), a combination which is is less likely to underestimate the current UV index and therefore acts as a check for the lag of other UV based reports. It assumes clear sky conditions to get the UV 'high' value for that moment and again avoid underreporting.

We built this app because we found that News Services and other Apps for major cities have readings that are 1. often delayed by an hour or more (not real-time) and 2. the readings are measured on a horizontal surface so are not representative of surfaces tilted at the sun like the face and arms - these readings are often too low.
Our app is unique in that it provides
-up to the minute theoretical calculation based on your location
-a correction for surfaces tilted at the sun
-Daily and Monthly forecasts - a uvi of 3 or more requires protection (often 9am-5pm)
-Widget uses cached GPS location to not use battery
-a theoretical SPF & PPD calculator
-All features work entirely offline and assume a clear sky (the goal is reporting the highest theoretical current UV Index) but with toggles for cloud conditions Download our free app and widget to get real-time theoretical UV Index for surfaces tilted at the sun to maximize your real-time sun safety.
