172.16.0.1 is the first usable address of the least known private range. If your network runs on it, that was a deliberate decision.

RFC 1918 set aside three private blocks: 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12 and 192.168.0.0/16. The middle one stays popular with companies, VPN concentrators and virtualisation hosts because consumer routers almost never collide with it.
