This application is created for users who want to know more about their environment. A mold risk calculator is useful for estimating the likelihood of mold growth in a particular environment based on various factors such as temperature and humidity. The mold risk calculator implemented in this initial version of the app is a very simplified model that calculates the mold risk factor, which represents the risk of mold germination and subsequent growth. The Mold Risk Calculator (initial release) calculates the days when mold can develop by considering two environmental factors: temperature and relative humidity. Both can be measured with a standard hygrometer and thermometer. A value of 0.5 or less indicates an environment with little or no risk of biological decay, while 0.5 indicates that mold spores are halfway to germination. In a real-world situation, the environment would be assessed over time to determine an ongoing overall progress in mold germination. For example: If the temperature and relative humidity near the surface where mold could grow are 25 degrees Celsius and 85%, respectively, the calculator calculates a risk of mold growth within 6 days. However, if the surface temperature remains at 25 degrees Celsius but the relative humidity drops to 50%, the calculator predicts a risk of mold of more than 1000 days, so there is no risk of mold formation. In future app versions we plan to include other mold growth models.
