Open the app, type the code your PC is showing, and your Windows desktop is on your phone. Move the pointer, type, scroll, drag. It is your machine, exactly as you left it. Next room, or another country once you switch that on in PC Tether on your PC.
WHAT IT DOES
See your PC's screen live, in portrait or landscape.
Use a precise pointer built for a touchscreen instead of a mouse pushed around by a finger.
Type with your phone's keyboard, plus the keys a PC needs: Ctrl, Alt, the Windows key, Esc, Tab and the arrows.
Send a file to your PC, or pull one back.
Copy on one machine and paste on the other, only when you ask for it.
Ask your PC to ping your phone when a window's title says a word you chose.
HOW IT CONNECTS
On the same Wi-Fi, your phone talks straight to your PC. To reach it from anywhere else, switch that on in PC Tether on the PC. Either way it is encrypted end to end, and the screen never lands on a server we can read.
THE SCREEN AND THE KEYS
What you see is live video of your PC's screen, sent by the free PC Tether app running on that PC. What you tap and type is sent to that PC, and the PC moves its own pointer and types into its own keyboard. This app never records your phone's screen and never types into your other apps.
WHAT THE APP ASKS FOR
The camera, only to scan the pairing code your PC shows you, and you can type the code instead.
Files, only to save what your PC sends you. It lands in Downloads, in a folder called Tether. To send one, you pick it with the phone's own file picker, and that is the only file the app reads.
Your fingerprint, face or screen lock, only to lock the app, and only if you switch that on.
Notifications, to show that your PC link is being held open while you use another app, to tell you when a file has arrived, and to pass on an alert you asked your PC for.

A Windows PC with the free PC Tether app, from pctether.com. Your phone and that PC pair once, by a code the PC shows you. There is no account to create.
PRIVACY
There is no advertising, and no analytics of our own. The scanner that reads the pairing code is Google's. From version 1.5.22 it no longer sends Google statistics about how it runs. We do not keep your screen, your files or your keystrokes, because they never reach us. What we do keep is small: your licence code, and a scrambled fingerprint of the connection so we can count the devices on one licence.
