The High School Placement Test, or HSPT, is used by many private high schools to determine admissions. The HSPT is administered to current 8th grade students seeking admission into 9th grade at private schools. The HSPT tests students in four key areas: Verbal and Quantitative, Reading, Mathematics, and Language. There are also optional tests that cover science, mechanical aptitude, and Catholic religion. Upon completion of the HSPT, a batter composite score is computed from the four key areas. Results from any optional tests are not included in this composite score.
