Lock a file or a message on your phone, then send it any way you like: email, chat, cloud storage or a USB stick. Only the person with the passphrase, or the key you locked it for, can open it.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Choose a file, or type a message.
2. Set a passphrase (the app can make a strong one for you).
3. Share the locked file in any app. Send the passphrase a different way, by a call, a text message or in person.

Locking and opening happen on your phone. There is no account, and your files, messages and passphrases are never uploaded.

OPENS WITHOUT THE APP
The person you send it to can open it in this app, in any web browser on the Cipherwind open page (nothing is uploaded), or with the free age command-line tool on a computer. Locked files use the open age format, so they never depend on this app being around.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Lock one file, or a message you type, with a passphrase.
• Make a strong, easy-to-read passphrase, and send it by text message or set a reminder to delete it in 7 days.
• Make a key pair on your phone so people can lock files for you with no passphrase to pass around.
• Remove location, camera and author details from photos (.jpg and .png) and Word, Excel and PowerPoint files before locking. The app tells you what it removed.
• Send one file straight to a nearby phone over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, without the internet. Both phones show a code to compare first.
• Take a photo or record a voice note and lock it straight away. The plain copy never reaches your gallery.
• Show a short locked message or a public key as a QR code, and scan one in.
• Check a file's checksums, check a minisign signature, or sign a file yourself.
• Print a backup sheet for your key, and lock whatever you copied from the quick-settings tile.
• Protect your keys and contacts inside the app with your phone's screen lock, a PIN, a password or a pattern.

FREE, WITH AN OPTIONAL PRO
Cipherwind is free and shows one small banner ad. Pro, a subscription through Google Play, removes the banner, lets you lock several files at once, and lets you lock for saved contacts. Locking and opening a file, locking a message and making a passphrase stay free. If you stop paying, nothing you locked is affected: locked files open with any age tool, with or without Pro.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no server that receives your files, and no analytics of our own. The free version's banner ads are provided by Google AdMob, and you can change your ad choices in Settings where Google's consent form applies.

HONEST ABOUT LIMITS
• There is no expiry and no recall. Once you send a locked file, it cannot be taken back.
• There is no passphrase recovery. If it is lost, the file cannot be opened by anyone, including us. Keep a copy until it has been delivered.
• A lock is only as strong as its passphrase. Use a long one and send it by a different route than the file.
• Nothing can protect a file after someone has opened it.
• It has not had an independent security review yet.

Locked files use the open age format and signatures use the minisign format, so other tools read them.
