"Japa" is a spiritual practice in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism that involves the repetition of a mantra or a divine name. A "japa checker and counter" is a device that helps in counting the number of repetitions of the mantra during japa.

The device usually consists of a set of beads or a digital counter, which helps in keeping track of the number of repetitions. In traditional japa practice, a mala or a string of 108 beads is used for counting the number of repetitions. Each bead is counted as the mantra is repeated, and the process continues until all 108 beads have been counted.
