The game is a remake of the classic and famous board game Mills or Nine Men's Morris, also called nine-man morris, mill, mills, the mill game, merels, merrills, merelles, marelles, morelles, ninepenny marl, or Cowboy checkers.
Game objective
Each player has nine pieces, or "men," that they can move across the twenty-four spaces on the board. The goal of the game is to leave your opponent with either no legal moves or fewer than three pieces.
What it does
Players alternately place their pieces on open spaces. A player has a "mill" and may take one of his opponent's pieces from the board if they can line up a straight row of three pieces along one of the board's lines (but not diagonally), removed pieces cannot be placed again. A piece from a formed mill cannot be removed until all other pieces have been removed by the players. Players alternate moving after using all eighteen pieces.
A player moves by sliding one of his pieces to an open neighboring space along a board line. If he is unable to accomplish so, the game is over for him. Similar to the placement phase, a player who lines up three of his pieces on a board line has a mill and is entitled to take one of his opponent's pieces; however, players should try to avoid taking pieces in mills. Once a player has three pieces left, all of his pieces - not only the nearby ones - can "fly," "hop," or "jump" to any unoccupied spaces.
Any player who is down to two pieces is unable to take out any more of the other player's pieces and forfeits the game.
