As the world steps into the 4th Industrial Age, we envision a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world undergoing continuous disruptive changes driven by digitalisation. Today, it is the responsibility of educators to prepare students to embrace these challenges and thrive in the midst of unprecedented technological advancements. English language competency is needed not only to do well in English as a subject and in general communication, but also in other subjects taught in English at school, such as Mathematics, Sciences and Social Sciences. In an English medium school environment, majority of the inputs that a student receives is from the teacher in the classroom or from text books, both of which are in English. We need to ensure that students hone their English language skills to be able to comprehend complete and accurate meaning of new terminology. It is equally important to confirm that students have gained a deeper understanding of subject content. It is this comprehensive learning of subject content which lays the foundation for their higher studies and career goals.
