*National Exam for the Certification of Youth and Adult Skills (Encceja)*
The purposes of Encceja are: to build a national reference for self-assessment for young people and adults through the assessment of competences, skills and knowledge acquired in the school or extra-school process; structuring an assessment aimed at young people and adults that serves the Education Departments to establish the process of certification of participants, at the completion level of Elementary School or High School, through the use of the results of the Exam; offer an assessment for the purpose of correcting the school flow; to build, consolidate and disseminate its results so that they can be used to improve the quality of the provision of Youth and Adult Education and in the certification process; to build parameters for the participant's self-assessment, aiming at the continuity of their training and their insertion in the world of work; to enable the development of studies and indicators on Brazilian education.
The Encceja tests comply with the basic requirements, established by the legislation in force, for Elementary and High Schools. They are applied in a single day, in the morning and afternoon shifts. The dates of application in Brazil and abroad are different, as are the tests for people deprived of their liberty or who are in socio-educational measures. The Exam consists of four objective tests, each with 30 multiple-choice questions, and an essay proposal. The objective tests assess the following areas of knowledge and their respective curricular components:
■ High School
Natural Sciences and its Technologies (Chemistry, Physics and Biology);
Mathematics and its Technologies;
Languages and Codes and their Technologies and Writing (Portuguese Language, Modern Foreign Language, Arts and Physical Education);
Human Sciences and their Technologies (History, Geography, Philosophy and Sociology).
■ Elementary School
Natural Sciences;
Math;
Portuguese Language, Modern Foreign Language, Arts, Physical Education and Writing;
History and geography.
