About this app

The SARS eFiling App is an innovation from the South African Revenue Service (SARS) that will appeal to the new generation of mobile taxpayers. With the new eFiling App, taxpayers can complete and submit their annual Income Tax Returns quickly and easily on their smartphones, tablets or iPads and receive their assessment. The SARS eFiling App brings simple convenient, easy, and secure eFiling to the palm of your hand, anytime, anywhere.
As a registered eFiler you can use the SARS eFiling App to:
• View, complete and submit your annual basic Income Tax Return (ITR12)
• Save and edit your ITR12 locally on your device
• Use the tax calculator to get an indication of your assessment outcome
• View the status of your return once submitted
• View a summary of your Notice of Assessment (ITA34)
View a summary of your Statement of Account (ITSA).

Online declaration We now have to complete an online declaration when we travel to South Africa. Great. Not great is that neither the online form nor the app is functional. None of the drop down menus are populated. We have nothing to declare but I can't seem to get the thing to submit because of blank fields. I'm not sure how to resolve this as a user. We're landing tomorrow morning just after nine and I hope you have a paper copy at customs... I'll bring my own pen.

You'd expect much more from SARS. The app is buggy (screens don't load, pages loop, and login attempts with the same credentials provide different outcomes), the app doesn't accept OTPs. Each individual action requires OTP confirmation. Some actions like "request your tax number" are monotonous if you're already logged in. Information security is important, but there was zero user experience considered when designing this app and how it functions.

Terrible app. Lots of work to be done. While this is a convenience for those who cannot go physically into the SARS office, this app still has many faults ,one of it being that the app doesn't remember anything of your personal details and always having to put in your password when you enter the app is really frustrating. And when uploading documents its even more of a struggle because you apparently cant have two different pdf files in the same group even tho they're two completely different.
