The National Museum of Independence, as it is otherwise known, the building where the Provisional Government of Ismail Qemali had its Headquarters in the Vlora Pier, was declared a Cultural Monument of the first category and Museum of National Independence on November 27, 1962, with the final name "National Museum of Independence ”has been taken by Decision of the Council of Ministers No. 293, dated 17/05/2006.

The total restoration of the building was completed in 2012 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of independence, while in January 2020 a partial restoration was done.
