Catchscape is a collecting game for real places.
A rooftop above a market. A cove you have to climb down to. A ridge that only makes sense at sunrise. Each one is a card, and there is exactly one way to earn it: stand there, and take the photograph with the camera, at that moment.
There is no gallery upload. There is no way to catch a place from your sofa. The phone tells the server where you are, the server checks, and that is the whole rule of the game.
WHAT WALKING EARNS YOU
- A card carrying the place, the light you caught it in, and a serial number. The first person to catch a place holds No 1, and nobody ever inherits it.
- First Light — the first catch a place ever receives — is kept forever.
- An album of your own photographs at every place you have been, kept private to you, whether or not the shot was close enough to be a catch.
- Some places are fragile, so the map blurs them. Some are hidden until you earn the key by catching something else.
BE A KEEPER
Some places are too beautiful to stay unrecorded, and too fragile to stay unwatched. Every catch is a record: a real photo, a real position, a numbered card that proves you were there and it was still beautiful.
Anyone, anywhere, can suggest a place worth protecting. Nothing publishes itself — a person reads every suggestion.
NOTHING IS FOR SALE
No tier, no serial, no rarity and no shortcut has a price. There are no purchases in this app, no advertising, no loot boxes, and nothing that counts down to make you hurry. If a card is rare, somebody walked to it.
IT WORKS WHERE THE SIGNAL DOES NOT
You can keep the map on the phone before you go. Out of signal the board still draws, the way to a place is still drawn, and a catch is sealed on the phone and sent the moment there is signal again — the light on the card is still the light that was really there.
GETTING THERE, HONESTLY
Every place says how hard it is to reach, in words: the ground, the grade of the access, the walk from the nearest road, the light that suits it, and the danger where there is one. The map draws the way, and it is a drawn line and not a guide: it knows nothing about a locked gate, a flooded crossing or the dark coming in. Some places should not be visited alone, and the app says so plainly rather than hoping.
Reviews come only from people who were really there, because a review needs a catch behind it.
WHAT THIS APP DOES NOT DO
- It never follows you. Nothing watches where you are in the background, and the app asks for no permission to do it. Your position leaves the phone only for the six moments the privacy page lists: a catch, a catch that waited for signal, asking for the way, suggesting a place, reporting a wrong pin, and checking an album photograph.
- Every photograph has its hidden data — GPS, camera, date — removed before it is stored. Twice.
- There is no advertising service, no analytics service and no tracker in it.
- There is no leaderboard and no ranking of people, anywhere, and there never will be.
- There is no newsletter. Catchscape sends three emails, all about your own account.
- You can delete your account from inside the app, and read exactly what that erases before you do.
The board today is in Morocco, and it grows one real place at a time. New regions and countries open as real places in them are verified — and you can open the way for your own part of the world by suggesting the places worth keeping. A place you suggest is kept, counted, and credited to you as its finder, wherever on Earth it is.
