HOW IT WORKS
1. Pick an activity — coffee, lunch, gym, a study grind, or whatever you type in.
2. Pick a time and location
3. Pick who sees it — all your friends, a group, or just a few people.
4. Watch who's in, then show up.
NOW AND UPCOMING
Now is for today — the spontaneous stuff. Someone's heading to lunch in ten minutes, someone else wants a gym partner tonight. It's live, it's happening today, and it clears itself out.
Upcoming is for plans made days ahead. Dinner on Thursday, a study session before the midterm, a group trip this weekend. RSVP once and it stays there — and if the host moves the time, you'll know.
WHAT'S ON CAMPUS
Club events and every Maryland game, pulled in automatically and laid out day by day. Filter down to free food, clubs, sports, or just the clubs you follow. Star what you're interested in and it's waiting at the top under "Yours this week."
Then do something about it: turn an event into a chirp if it's today, or a plan if it's later this week. "Who's coming to the game Saturday?" is two taps. What you star is private, and there are no attendee lists — the only thing anyone else sees is the chirp or plan you chose to send them.
DINING, BUILT IN
See what's actually being served in the UMD dining halls right now, by hall and by station, with allergen and diet tags on every dish. Pin your favorites and spot them the moment they're on the menu. Then turn any meal into a chirp in one tap: "heading to South, who's coming?"
GROUPS
Make a group for your friend group, your club, your floor, etc. Broadcast to it, plan with it, invite people with a link or QR code.
MEET NEW PEOPLE — ONLY IF YOU OPT IN
This one is entirely optional. Turn it on and Chirp will surface a handful of students you genuinely overlap with — same major, same residence hall, shared interests — and let you send a friend request. Leave it off and you're invisible to it; nothing changes about the rest of the app.
Even when it's on: no search, no browsing, no swiping, and no way for a stranger to look you up. You send the request, they accept. Interest is never revealed unless it's mutual, and ignoring a request is silent — nobody is ever told they were turned down. You can turn it off again any time.
NOTIFICATIONS YOU CONTROL
Buzz, Quiet, or Off for each person. A global quiet switch. Quiet hours you set yourself. And any chirp can be posted quietly, so it shows up without buzzing anyone.
PRIVACY BY DESIGN
• Friends-only. No public feed, no strangers, no discovery by search.
• No location tracking, ever. A place is only the venue you chose to share, with the audience you chose — and a campus event shows the university's own listed venue, never a person's whereabouts.
• No photos. Everyone gets their initials and a color.
• Others only ever see your first name and last initial.
• You can always see who can see you — and change it any time.
• Block, report, and delete your account from inside the app.
