About this app

ColonyTrack is a beekeeping app and hive management tool I built because the tools I tried didn't fit how I actually work my hives.

I'm MayDay. 22 years across cloud engineering, e-commerce, and gaming. After enough seasons of cobbling notes together in spreadsheets and a paper beekeeping journal, I built what I wanted: a field tool that thinks like a beekeeper. There are other beekeeping apps out there. This one is just built the way I think a hive tracker should work.

WHAT I WANTED IT TO BE
A tool you can use with gloves on, in the sun, with bees around. Guided hive inspections instead of blank forms. My mentors taught me: never open a hive for a fishing expedition. Have a reason, then open the lid. Voice dictation when your hands are full. QR or NFC on every beehive so the right record is one tap away. Charts that show what actually matters, alerts that only fire when they should.

THE QUEEN LIFECYCLE ENGINE
The part I'm proudest of. When a hive starts raising a new queen, because it's superseding her, getting ready to swarm, or you made a split, the app runs the real queen-development clock for you. It counts the days and tells you exactly when to look back in and what you should see: when the new queen should have emerged, when eggs should appear. One timeline handles supersedure, swarm cells, splits, emergency queens, even a mated queen you caged and installed. No flipping through a calendar doing the math in your head. It's free, it's on by default, and you can switch it off in one tap.

Twelve guided inspection flows that tell you what to check. QR and NFC hive tags (NFC on Pro). Voice dictation. Color-coded inspection history. Varroa mite, colony strength, and brood trend charts. Queen change tracking on your hive timeline. Mite check reminders. Harvest and honey logging. Multiple yards with all-yards trends and comparison (Pro). Built-in field guides: varroa, pests (hive beetle, wax moths, ants, wasps, mice), installing a package or nuc, swarm prevention. Apiary dashboard with a Best All-Around ranking. Split tracking with parent-hive links. Mentor sharing via read-only link.

Inspection records, photos, hive history. Yours, end of story. Export to CSV any time, free or paid. If you leave, you take everything with you. No paywall on your own work.

PRIVACY AS A DELIBERATE CHOICE

PRO PLAN ($4.99/month)
Up to 100 hives across up to 5 yards. Adds multiple yards (run more than one apiary from one account, with all-yards trends and comparison), NFC tag binding (tap a sticker to open the hive), treatment window alerts, the apiary dashboard, cross-hive comparison, split tracking, mentor sharing, PDF reports, and trend charts.
