Seven years of English at school, and we're still stuck in front of a video without subtitles. We read by translating in our heads. We understand, but we don't speak.
You're not the problem. It's the method.
A child speaks their native language without ever having opened a grammar book. Every day, they hear sentences they almost understand, in a familiar context, without stress or judgment. Linguist Stephen Krashen calls this comprehensible input, and it's the principle on which :flex is built.
Here, you don't learn English like you do at school. You acquire it, through regular exposure, at the right level, with sentences you could actually say.
Your session for today
You open the app, tap a button, and your session begins. Each session focuses on a real-life topic: the market, housing, work, health, travel, money, restaurants, the internet, the telephone... You discover a few new words, with sound and an example sentence, then you immediately put them into practice with short exercises.
The exercises vary from one session to the next: recognizing a word, matching, completing a sentence, reconstructing a sentence you hear, changing from one verb form to another. Each answer is corrected on the spot.
A session lasts about ten minutes. If you have to stop partway through, don't worry: you can pick it up again later. At the end, you review the day's words, and everyone listens back to their own recordings with a gesture.
Stories that use your vocabulary
As you progress through a topic, a short audio episode features the words you've just learned, most often a two-voice dialogue in a familiar situation. Questions during and after listening check your comprehension.
Every day, you also get a general knowledge episode: stories, culture, science, the internet. You choose your format: audio only, audio with text, or karaoke, where each word is highlighted as it's spoken.
Irregular verbs, without a list to recite
The 100 essential irregular verbs, with the infinitive, past tense, and past participle, each placed in example sentences and pronounced aloud. They are revisited throughout the sessions instead of being memorized all at once.
Challenges and duels
Test yourself solo against the clock, or challenge someone to a real-time duel: you create a game, share the code, your opponent joins, and the round begins. Play with friends, siblings, or parent and child.
An app that remembers for you
• Smart review: A word comes back just when you're about to forget it, mixed in with words from other topics so it sticks.
• Your mistakes come back later, without penalty. You don't lose lives, you progress.
• A series and experience points to track your consistency, week after week.
• Your past sessions and episodes stay in your library, and a search finds a word instantly.
• Gentle reminders, adjustable or you can turn them off.
• Light mode and night mode, readable in bright sunlight or at night.
Free
The app is free and ad-free. No advertising, no data resale.
Ten to fifteen minutes a day is enough. It's consistency that counts, not duration.
