About this app

Did you know? A barcode doesn't tell you where a product was manufactured. The first digits only indicate where the brand registered the code — not the country of origin. A product with a French barcode can be made in China. A product with a US barcode can be manufactured anywhere in the world.

Mio is a barcode scanner for product origin. Scan any barcode and discover the manufacturing country of your everyday products in seconds.

HOW MIO FINDS WHERE PRODUCTS ARE MADE
Unlike basic barcode scanners that guess from the barcode prefix, Mio uses AI to search across multiple public sources:
• A database of 69 million products
• Public product pages from retailers and manufacturers
• Open databases (OpenFoodFacts, Open Beauty Facts)
• Real-time web search for new or rare products

The result: the manufacturing country with a confidence level and clickable sources. No guesswork, no black box.

READS PACKAGING TEXT
Mio can detect "Made in" text directly from product packaging using your camera. When the origin is printed on the box, you get an instant answer — no AI search needed.

WHAT YOU GET FOR EVERY SCAN
• Country of manufacture with flag
• Confidence level: Certified, Verified, Probable, Estimated, or Unknown
• Sources used — tap any source to verify yourself
• AI reasoning explaining how the origin was determined
• GS1 prefix info: brand registration country vs. manufacturing country found

SCAN ANY PRODUCT
Mio works with any product that has a barcode: food and beverages, cosmetics, hygiene products, electronics, cleaning products, toys, textile, health products, pet care. If it has a barcode, Mio can find where it's made.

69 MILLION PRODUCTS AND GROWING
Mio combines the largest open product databases with an AI agent that searches the web in real time. When a product isn't in the database yet, the AI finds it. The more people scan, the more products Mio knows about.

YOUR SCAN HISTORY
Every product you scan is saved with its origin result. Search your history to find past scans instantly — no need to re-scan products you've already checked.

SHARE SURPRISING RESULTS
Found out your "French" butter is actually made in Germany? Share the result with friends and family. Mio generates a visual card you can send on WhatsApp, iMessage, Instagram, or any messaging app. Every shared link leads to a product page where anyone can see the origin and download Mio.

COMMUNITY-POWERED
• Confirm or correct manufacturing origins you know about
• Suggest the country of manufacture for unknown products
• Report incorrect or outdated sources
• Every contribution makes Mio more accurate for everyone

PRIVACY FIRST
• No account required — start scanning immediately
• No ads, ever
• No data sold to third parties
• Delete all your data from the app at any time (GDPR compliant)

NOT A NUTRITION APP — A MANUFACTURING ORIGIN APP
Mio doesn't rate products or analyze ingredients. Yuka tells you if a product is healthy. Mio tells you where it was manufactured. They're complementary — use both for the full picture.

Mio is an aggregator of publicly available information. It surfaces what public sources indicate about where products are manufactured, with full transparency on confidence levels and sources.

Download Mio and discover where your products are made.
