About this app

graygate is an end-to-end encrypted messenger. Messages, photos and videos are encrypted on your device, and the server only relays ciphertext. Undelivered ciphertext is kept for at most 14 days and deleted as soon as it is delivered.

• Signing up requires an invitation code from an existing user. No email address or phone number is asked for.
• Rooms are joined by password or by an invitation from the room admin. Direct conversations are invitation only.
• Compare key fingerprints with the people you talk to, so you can tell if anyone is in the middle.
• No read receipts, online status or typing indicators.
• Per-room auto-delete (1, 7 or 30 days), carried out on each device.
• App lock with biometrics or a PIN, and a wipe PIN that erases this app's data on the device.
• Block and report users from within the app.

The server can see which rooms an account belongs to and when it connects, but not what is said. Conversations are never backed up: a new device starts with new keys.
