About this app

HelloMates is for people traveling alone in a city. It is about tonight, and about the week you land, not about a profile you have to keep up.

WHO IS IN TOWN TONIGHT
Set a status (going out, in tonight, arrived today, have a vehicle) and see who else is in your city. The count is live: only people who set a status in the last 24 hours are on it, so you are never reading an old roster. The map carries real faces, and a tap opens the person behind one.

CHAT THAT IS NEVER LOCKED
The city chat for everyone here tonight. Your hostel chat, from the code on the card at reception, or the chat for the nearest hostel street when you are not staying in one. Private conversations too. Chat never sits behind Plus.

ROOMS: A TIME, A PLACE AND A CAP
A roof at 9, a tuk-tuk to the market, a van to the falls with the cost split. Every room has a time, a place and a limit on seats, and you join the plan, not a person. A room is either listed for the whole city or reachable only by a code you hand out. Tick "I showed up" afterwards and your reputation grows.

LANDING THIS WEEK
Add your arrival date, your city or your flight number and you appear as landing in six hours. Read the city chat and the rooms before you land, and see who is on your flight or arriving the same day.

ARM IT: A CHECK-IN YOUR PEOPLE HEAR
Pick a check-in hour for any window you like: a night out, a taxi, a hike, a day in bed. Miss it, and the contacts you chose receive the message you wrote: your last known location, the emergency numbers for the city you armed for, your own steps for freezing a card, and a Find My link. HelloMates delivers that message and does nothing else. It does not call the police, an ambulance, a dispatcher or anyone else, and it is not a replacement for emergency services, travel insurance, a travel companion, or telling someone where you are going.

HOME, FOR THE PERSON WHO STAYS
A parent, a partner or a friend enters a code you create and sees whether you checked in, and when. HelloMates Family adds your last known location during a running check-in, your flight, and the city's emergency numbers.

MOMENTS
A photo or a line about today, for the city you are in. It fades after 7 days.

THE WOMEN'S LANE
A lane across the city chat, the tonight list, Moments and rooms that only women in the lane can see. It is a safety feature and nothing more.

REPORT, BLOCK, AND AN ANSWER FROM A PERSON
Report and block sit on every profile and every message. The group chats screen offensive words and images before anything is stored. Every report and every appeal gets an answer from a person within 24 hours, with the reason and the decision.

HELLOMATES PLUS
Plus opens the whole tonight list with status and distance, who lands in the city this week with their plan tags, who viewed your profile, unlimited new conversations a day instead of three, the All / Women / Men filter, messaging before you land, and translation inside any chat. Weekly, monthly, yearly, or a one-off lifetime plan. No trial, a reminder the day before every renewal, and cancel in one tap from Settings. Chat, rooms and Arm it stay open without Plus.

HelloMates is for people 18 and over. First city: Bangkok, then Lisbon, then Medellin.

What’s new

Check in from the Me tab when you want to appear on tonight's map. You choose whether to show your approximate spot, and turning location off takes you off the map.
