About this app

MamaTalk is an audio storybook app that reads Korean folk tales aloud, paired with ink-wash illustrations and traditional Korean court music (jeongak).

Each episode runs about ten minutes: a 30-second gugak intro, the narrated story, then credits and a picture-book review over five minutes of court music.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

- Listen to Korean folk tales narrated aloud. A mother's narration and a father's spoken lines are labeled separately on screen so you can tell whose voice it is.
- Read along with Korean and English subtitles that change with each scene.
- View ten ink-wash illustrations that turn as the story progresses, followed by a scene-by-scene review at the end.
- Pick a listening profile: prenatal, under 5, children, adult, or senior. Each profile plays audio that has been prepared on the server for that setting.
- Play the five-minute court music track on its own, without narration.
- Use dark screen mode for listening at bedtime.
- Control playback from the lock screen. Audio keeps playing with the screen off.

AUDIO QUALITY

Audio is delivered as uncompressed 44.1 kHz WAV rather than compressed streaming audio. A single episode is over 100 MB, so Wi-Fi is recommended.

Court music is sourced from the National Gugak Center's digital instrument recordings.

Free episodes play without an account. Some content is available for purchase. Signing in links the app with mamatalk.space under one account and keeps your playback position when you switch devices. You can delete your account at any time in Settings.
