Night Vision turns your phone camera into a light amplifier. The brightening is real. The green is a costume.
It reads the brightness of every pixel in the live frame and multiplies it, then paints the result on a phosphor palette, the way a real image intensifier does.
This is not a thermal camera and it is not an infrared camera. Your phone has neither of those sensors, and no app can add them. What your phone does have is a camera that already sees a little further into the dark than your eyes do, and this app pushes that as far as it goes.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS
The scope opens your camera at its longest exposure. It measures the noise floor of each frame and subtracts it, so the amplification lands on real signal instead of sensor grain. Then it multiplies what is left, up to 12 times. A pixel sitting at 4 percent brightness comes back at 30 percent. Finally it runs that through a logarithmic response curve, which is what stops a streetlight from blowing out the whole field of view, and maps it onto a phosphor colour.
Every step is a function of light that actually reached your sensor. Nothing is invented.
WHERE IT STOPS
It cannot see in complete darkness. Amplifying nothing gives you nothing. In a sealed room with no light at all you get noise, and the app tells you so on screen rather than pretending. Real night vision goggles hit the same wall, which is why they carry an infrared lamp to throw light of their own.
Somewhere between a plain camera and the real thing is the honest answer. In moonlight, on a lit street, or in a room with a screen glowing in it, you will genuinely see more than your eyes do.
WHAT YOU GET
Four phosphor modes. Gen 3 green for the classic P43 look and the best contrast on faint detail, white phosphor for long comfortable viewing, ember for a warm palette, and raw mono for the amplified signal with no colour at all.
Auto gain that solves for the scene on its own, or take the dial yourself and hold any level from 1x to 12x.
A live readout of gain, mode and exposure, so you always know what the picture is doing.

A low signal warning that says plainly when there is nothing left to amplify.
Capture frames straight from the scope. They save to a Night Vision album in your normal phone gallery, with the same amplification and tube look you saw on screen.

Front and back camera, and your phone flash as a lamp. The lamp is labelled as what it is, white light rather than an infrared illuminator, because anyone nearby can see it.
