NOX is a spam call blocking app for Android. It automatically blocks calls from numbers associated with telemarketing, scams, and spam using a dynamic database that's updated daily.

Unlike many similar apps, NOX doesn't rely on cloud services or external analytics: all decisions are made locally on the device.

HOW IT WORKS

NOX intercepts incoming calls before the phone rings. If the number is in the database of known spam numbers, the call is silently rejected. If the number isn't recognized, NOX displays an interface with three options: answer, reject, or reject and add to your personal blacklist.

Filtering occurs entirely on the device. No calls are forwarded to external servers.

WHAT NOX DOESN'T DO

NOX is designed with a privacy-first approach. Specifically:

- Does not record calls
- Does not save conversation content
- Does not send the address book or call logs to external servers
- Does not share data with third parties for advertising purposes
- Does not use tracker analytics
- Does not require registration or a user account

The only data that leaves the device is the periodic request to update the spam database, made to the NOX server over an encrypted connection.

PERMISSIONS REQUIRED

- Call filtering service (CallScreeningService): required to intercept incoming calls. Mandatory for operation.

- Address book access: Optional, used only to recognize saved contacts and exclude them from blocking.
- App overlay: Required to display the interface during incoming calls.
- Background execution: Required for scheduled database updates.

DATABASE SOURCE

The spam number database is built from aggregated public reports, under a commercial license. Each number has a classification (telemarketing, scam, call center, survey) and a trust score. NOX only blocks numbers with a high trust score.

COMPATIBILITY

NOX requires Android 10 or later. It runs on any device that complies with Android standards, with no manufacturer dependencies.
