• Pick the apps that pull you in (Instagram, TikTok, Reels, etc.)
• Set a daily limit for each app — you decide the time
• When you open one, Refrain takes a breath with you and gives you a choice — a short timed session, or close the app
• Brief switches to another app don't reset your session — check something quick and come back without another pause
• When your timer runs out, Refrain pauses you again — no silent overruns, no broken limits

PERMISSIONS

Refrain asks for three Android permissions:

• Accessibility Service — detects when a controlled app launches so Refrain can step in. We never read screen content or capture text.
• Usage Access — reads your daily app usage to show time-used and enforce your daily limits.
• Ignore battery optimizations (recommended) — keeps Refrain reliable in the background so timers fire on time.

To stay running in the background, Refrain also uses a foreground service. You'll see a low-priority "Refrain active" notification in the "Other" section of your notification shade — it's how Android lets Refrain keep working while you use other apps.
