About this app

Rakkan is a chat app for two people who don't share a language. It translates every message, and your live video-call captions, between your language and your partner's, so you can just talk.

I built it for me & my girlfriend. She writes me in Thai, which I can't read, and I was stuck in the same loop every day: copy her message, translate it, read it, write back, translate again, paste. Our whole chat history sat in a language I couldn't understand. Google Translate didn't help much, it translates the words but not the meaning, the tone, or who you are to each other.

So Rakkan keeps your relationship in every message. Your nicknames, your tone, the way you two talk. And before anything sends, it shows you a read-back, your message translated straight back into your own words, so you always know how it will land. No more guessing.

On a video call, every sentence shows up as a live translated caption while you speak. No app-switching, no typing.
