About this app

A small, fast Markdown editor and note-taking app for your phone. This app is about 3 MB and has no internet permission. No ads or tracking.

Rapier is a minimalistic writing app designed to be fast and beautiful on any device, but the Android app provides the best experience. It also has a Draw mode with an SVG editor, freehand brushes, watercolors and typographic art. Supports Mermaid diagrams and flowcharts.

Everything is plain Markdown. Pictures, drawings and paintings are embedded inside the file. Documents in Rapier are single files you can open in other Markdown apps or any browser, now or in 20 years.

Writing

Use Rapier as a text editor for Markdown, plain text and code files, or share into Rapier from any app. Import Word (.docx) documents and PDF files. Free export to Word, PDF, text or an HTML page that opens offline in any browser. Formatting includes lists, tables, footnotes, code with syntax highlighting and LaTeX equations done properly. Find and replace, proper undo, compare, read aloud (text-to-speech), light and dark themes. You can also switch to viewing the Markdown source without losing your position.

Notes

Organize notes as cards with colors, pins, checklists, reminders, voice recordings and a home-screen widget. Link notes, search them, browse and restore previous versions. Import your notes from 15+ apps.

Drawing

Sketch with a finger or a stylus. Boxes and arrows stay tidy automatically. There's also typographic art, backgrounds and effects. Drawings are SVGs so they stay sharp and editable.

Painting

Water mode is a real watercolor toolbox with fluid simulation, spreading, mixing and drying. Everything is designed for painting with your finger. Raster brush mode uses the open MyPaint preset format and includes many factory brushes like oil, bristle, feather and pencil. Your painting keeps a transparent background, but you can also use background textures including canvases which the paint still bleeds into.

Collaborate

Leave comments, suggest edits, and export any document as an offline HTML page. You can also share a single HTML file with the Rapier editor inside and then open it offline, make changes and export an updated copy to send back with history preserved.

Under the hood

Rapier is open source, free forever and works on any device with a browser. You can access it anywhere from rapier.website and there is a free Windows app too. If you use Claude, ChatGPT, Muse or Cursor, you can let them into a document. They write, diagram, draw and paint where you can watch them, and you can undo anything.

Pictures are saved as JPEG XL with Rapier's built-in encoder for tiny files which keep images and paintings sharp, and transparency preserved.

Maths, Mermaid diagrams, PDF import and text recognition (OCR) download through Google Play when first needed, then work offline. One-time Pro adds full compare, the home-screen widget and custom app icon colors.

What’s new

Huge update with many bug fixes and improvements to the editor. Also added a Gallery of public domain artwork as SVGs you can browse from a new document. Thanks for trying Rapier - you can email [e-mail] with any feedback or requests.
