About this app

Remote Audio Player turns one phone into a music player and the others into remote controls for it.

Put the phone that holds your music next to a Bluetooth speaker and switch it to Host mode. Every other phone on the same Wi-Fi network finds it automatically and can control playback: pause, skip, seek, change the volume, add songs to the shared queue and remove them again.

No cloud service. No account. The phones talk directly to each other on your local network, so the app keeps working when there is no internet at all.

WHAT IT DOES

• One host and as many remotes as you like, at the same time
• Automatic discovery of the host on the network
• Shared queue — everyone can add a song
• Browse and search the host's music library straight from a remote
• Start playing instantly from a folder or a playlist, not one track at a time
• Current track, artwork and accurate progress on every remote
• Repeat, shuffle and playback speed control
• Host volume control
• Microphone: talk into your phone and be heard through the host's speaker
• The host decides which folders and playlists are shared
• See connected remotes and disconnect any of them

SECURITY

A new remote is added by scanning a QR code shown by the host. The code is single use and expires after one minute. After that the devices remember each other by cryptographic keys and reconnect on their own, and everything they exchange is encrypted. A stranger on the same Wi-Fi network cannot connect.

WHAT IT IS FOR

• A party: guests add music from their own phones without passing them around
• Workshop, garage, kitchen: the music phone stays by the speaker, you control it from yours
• Training or dancing: change the track without walking over to the speaker
• Announcements through the speaker, spoken from your own phone

WHAT YOU NEED

• Android 8.0 or newer
• Both phones on the same Wi-Fi network
• Access to the audio files on the host phone

The app collects no data, shows no ads and needs no sign-up.
Control music on another phone over Wi-Fi. No internet, no server, no account.

What’s new

Turn one phone into an audio player and the others into remotes for it.

Put the phone that holds your music next to a Bluetooth speaker and switch it to Host mode. Other phones on the same Wi-Fi network find it automatically and can control playback: pause, skip tracks, seek, and change the volume.

Pairing is by QR code, traffic is encrypted end to end, and nothing leaves your local network. No account, no ads, no sign-up.
