SailLab is a cloud-based platform that turns raw GPS sailing data into actionable performance insights — automatically. Upload a VKX or GPX file from any sailing session, and within minutes receive race detection, speed polar diagrams, maneuver analysis, multi-boat replay, and team rankings, all without any manual annotation.
Competitive sailors generate rich GPS data every time they go out on the water, but most of that data goes unused. Extracting meaningful insights traditionally requires expensive coaching software, hours of manual work marking race boundaries and wind angles, or a data science background. The gap between raw GPS tracks and useful analysis is too wide for most sailors to bridge.
The workflow is simple: sail with GPS (using SailLab's mobile recorder or a Velocitek/GPX device), upload the file, and let the platform do the rest.
SailLab's processing pipeline automatically estimates wind direction from the GPS data using symmetry analysis on speed-angle distributions. It then detects individual races within a session using change-point detection and clustering algorithms — no need to mark starts or finishes. Each race is segmented into maneuvers (tacks and jibes), and detailed statistics are generated for every level of analysis.
