solstone is a personal memory platform. the solstone app takes in what you share with it, and all of it goes into your journal. your journal is always private, only yours.
what this app needs
the solstone app on android pairs with your journal, on a computer you own and run solstone on. set up your journal on your computer first if you haven't already; that's where your memories live.
what it takes in
with your permission: the audio from your day, stills from your camera, and your approximate location. everything you bring in goes into your journal. location is approximate only, never street-level. every source is its own switch, off until you turn it on, and each one asks only for what it needs. nothing runs until you start it, and while it is running an ongoing notification says so and carries start and stop. by default a model runs on that same computer.
pairing you can check
when you pair, your phone shows you your journal's mark and asks whether it matches the one your journal is showing. if it doesn't match, the phone tries to remove the connection, and tells you if your journal may still have this phone listed. once you're paired, your journal opens inside the app.
what your journal makes possible
your journal keeps a knowledge graph of the people and projects in your life, and makes all of your memories accessible. everything you've brought in is searchable. a memory your agents can work from.
optional services, never required
private network: use your own VPN to reach your journal from your phone, from anywhere, or use ours. we provide a private network that only your devices can enter.
encrypted backup: keep an encrypted copy of your journal somewhere safe, encrypted on your device before it leaves. you can bring your own storage, or we can provide that service. only you can read it.
confidential processing: available to approved scouts. if your journal doesn't have enough resources, you can think off your device on confidential hardware sol pbc runs. no content retained, no human review, nothing used to train, ever.
solstone works fully without any of them.
you don't have to take our word for it
solstone is open source, under the AGPL. read the code, run it yourself, verify every claim. there is no analytics or tracking code in this app, and the build fails if a known analytics, crash-reporting or tracking library enters it. nothing in it reports usage back to us. we can't tell you how many people run solstone. we built it so we can't know, and we never will.
sol pbc is a public benefit corporation. the promises about your data live in article 8 of our filed articles of incorporation, not in a policy we could quietly change. article 8 can't be amended without the founder's personal signature, and after him the language can only get stronger, never weaker.
